Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

My favorite Sibelius symphonies

1 - Stokowski (Columbia, only on LP), Gibson/SNO (Chandos)
2 - Kamu/BPO (DG), Szell/Cleveland (Sony), Karajan/BPO (EMI), Barbirolli/RPO (Chesky)
3 - Blomsted/SFSO (Decca), Vanska/Lahti (Bis), Davis/Boston (Philips)
4 - Maazel/VPO (Decca), Segerstam/Helsinki (Ondine)
5 - Berglung/Bournemouth (EMI)
6 - Leaper/Slovak SO (Naxos), Sanderling/Berlin PO (Berlin Classics)
7 - Leaper/Slovak SO (Naxos), Koussevitsky/BBC (several)

There are many other good ones, but it would taker a lot of space to list.

Critics often call "definitive" those performances that received some nod from Sibelius himself. It is hard to agree. IMO, music of Sibelius was not properly performed during his lifetime.
