Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

I must disagree re: not "highly regarded."

Hi-

Although it is technically true that while Stradivari was alive, Stainer violins fetched higher prices, that is just the ignorance of the market's lagging behind new developments. I am sure that in the 1950s, an old Blower Bentley fetched more than a Ferrari Testarossa. So what? Which would you rather own today?

The Hiller Strad was bought by its original owner, mail-order from England. That is how widespread Antonio's reputation was during his life. Later on, a Strad was swapped for 1,400 acres--of Pittsburgh. In the day, "As rich as Stradivari" was a catch-phrase in Italy. Not hardly not "highly regarded."

The Cremonese violins responded better to the demands of professional musicians playing to ticket buyers in large halls. The market has spoken. And having beheld some Strads and one del Gesu up close, the craftsmanship is awe-inspiring...

No offense ment!
