Maybe he is right. Try playing Brahms instead! Just kidding..sort of...not a Wagner fan here, he's more of a multi-media director than an composer of music.

Are you sure he wasn't just saying that he didn't like it? That's what my parents meant when they said that what I listened to was noise.

Or, he may have been using the word noise to refer to dissonant sounds. Doesn't that piece start with a swirling cacophony, like the orchestra is tuning up? And, they weren't considered music by the general public back in Wagner's day either!

I don't think there is anything terribly interesting musically going on here. It's just a combination of cultural, subjective, possibly intellectual (he may just be too dull to recognize interesting harmonies) divergences.
