While in college I would save up a couple of $100 and drive to Tower in San Franscisco, with its main store and Classical/Jazz annex across the street; talk about exciting! It was a pilgrimage about every 4 months. How difficult it was to stay in budget and put things back. What to put back.Speaking of Classical only, I still remember it making appearances in independent grocery stores even in my small hometown--it seemed more widely-marketed, if my memory is correct. I just picked up a 4Lp set of Craft's Webern "complete" works on Columbia mono--a very extravagant production in every way, and the sound is amazing. What's really intersting is the pricetag is still on the box: $23.95 in 1962 purchased at Bruener's--a furniture store of all places. I just find this so odd today: "Hi-I'll take that couch, OH...and the Complete Works of Webern as well."
