Much "new age' is ambient in style, but much ambient is not new age. I can see how folks that have not been brought up on Eno or involved in the early stages of techno (intellignet techno) probably believe ambient = new age. Personally, I struggle with new age, but am loving the other ambient styles. I have not gone true 'dark ambient' or the more overtly futuristic / industrial / beats-driven (e.g. Aphex Twin and Autechre) styles... I will wait a while before tackling these; I can only $pend so much ;^)
I wish I have access to internet radio - I would certainly be listening to more ambient. I feel a little disadvanteged by having to go with written descriptions etc. to guide my ambient sojourn; listening would be more efficient and effecdtive. That said, I am enjoying every single purchase I have to date, so must be doing something right.
I have some more on the way - I will post my thoughts after a listen. That reminds me, I don't think I have posted about all the disks I have been listening to...
