"I will say that Muic today DOESNT suck, Just turn off the radio and vistit a music store Like FYE and Pre-veiw the album of the artists you hear on the radio before you say that they actually suck."I actually do that..... The problem is 9 times out of 10, I just hear more of the same......
I do think the music put out today mostly "sucks"...... And sucks bad........
"Most of these people have only heard the singles on the radio and get tired of tem being played over and over which I agree they are overplayed, but there isan option to that, Buy an integrated amp, change the channel or switch from FM STEREO to CD/AUX or buy a satelite tuner."
I use YouTube..... The selection of music is staggering....... The selection of musical eras and genres is staggering...... And it's free...... [-;
"I admit I like some of the bands that people say suck,"
No need to be defensive..... I like bands that people say suck too..... Lots of evidence of that on Rocky........
"I will agree that they are generic sounding but not anything really bad. I like artists , Coldplay, My Chemical romance, Fallout Boy, Nickelback, Alter Bridge, Lifehouse, Creed, Scott stapp, gym Class heros, Kelly clarkson ,lifehouse, T.I., Timbaland, Nelly furtado. ETC."
Coldplay IMO is easily the best of the bunch. (My cold reaction to the last album notwithstanding.) Most of the others to me are overprocessed and use music-destroying applications such as pitch correction. (Gym Class Heroes IMO is a poster child for what's wrong with music today. Prefabrication, pitch correction, and "playback" performances in concert.)
But if you (or someone else) like it, that's never a problem. Criticism of music or performers should never be taken personally.
"One thing i hear is this stigmatism that certain artists have on them anc cant shake off."
It's because in my opinion, there really isn't much going on from a composition standpoint. It's more formulistic than imaginative.
"If you listen to Maroon 5, good charlotte, coldplay or the Killers you must be gay. I mean WTF is that sapposed to mean, just because I listen to an artist that actually sings about positive and emotion things and stuff like that doesnt make me gay."
It's called peer pressure. Fueled by media hype. Too many people buy into it and let it override what they personally perceive. And in time, they lose confidence in what they perceive. I think it's at the very core of why music has declined.
If someone told me some music was "gay" (even if I don't like it), it goes in one ear and out the other. It's a convenient and intellectually lazy way to put down something without explanation.
"I just like othter music besides music that talks about having random unprotected anal and vaginal sex with women and shooting people in the head for making fun of me and stealing my money, or screaming DIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE and AAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and talking about satanic riturals and cutting myself doesnt make me or anyone else for that matter gay."
It's peer pressure music. And some people end up thinking it's cool to be disgusting or like anything disgusting.
"I have a freind, who is a BIG rock Fan, He loves Megadeth, Bob marley, lamb of god, Korn, Led zeppelin, Jimi Hindrix, 3 doors down, metallica, Pantera, tori Amos,Alanis morsette, ozzy ozborne, king crimson, billy joel, the 70's R&B the doors etc. (sounds to me that he needs to be 'secretly' hooked up with a vintage sound system)
He has an IPOD and a HUGE CD collection. (I gotta hook him up with some real headphones though) Hint Hint...."He does indeet try to get me to listen to more music than the poppy stuff I prefer and I will Admit I like some of the stuff he listens to."
If you like it, that's all what matters. Your friend apparently likes "harder" music than you do.
"He does think its weird that I like teen girl-pop like vanessa hudgens and the like ut he respects y preference, H esays he doesnt like some of the bands he hears onthe radio because the hits are so poppy and I will dmit that some of the bands do seem to sing a lot about heartbreak, teen angst, and love."
That's OK too. As long as he doesn't rail on you for liking what you like. And as long as you don't rail on him for liking what he likes.
You can criticize the music, but don't criticize others for liking it.
"He thinks the best music HAS to talk bout, LIFE, politics, love (somtimes), Apathy, Depression Lonliness, Sex ad violence which I do agree."
This is where I strongly disagree. I think music should be valued as music. Great lyrics are often an integral part of great music, but the overall composition is what matters. There is great music about subjects I don't agree with. And there is great instrumental music. (Then there's the band Yes, that put out good music with lame lyrics.) IMO, too many artists in recent time have been popular only because they write lyrics that win the popularity, but otherwise create compositions that will be soon forgotten once the audience's social interests change. The music is more like "toys for teens" than compositions that can be appreciated for a lifetime.
Maybe I was wired differently, but over 95 percent of the music I liked when I was in grade school and college I still like now. But then again, during that time, I didn't let social peers decide what music I should and shouldn't like.
