Just laziness on the part of my old brain, and... you can pronounce NAFTA like a word, and you cannot pronounce the replacement like a word.
"NAFTA Zone" falls trippingly off the tongue, IMHO.
AFAIK, the big negotiating points for USMCA were:
Environmental issues
Intellectual Property, esp. digital matters
Raising the North American origin car-part requirement to 75%
Minimum-wage requirements for certain industries and products
AFAIK, the mechanics of the agreement itself carried over. But it's been more than 30 years since I was last involved in litigation that had International Trade ramifications.
If you look at the list of USMCA "gets," it's the Bastard Child of Trumpean Nationalistic Populism, and the usual Democratic concerns about the environment and worker welfare.
Therefore, because at least half of the "gets" of USMCA are core concerns of the Democratic Party, which at some point has to get so tired of losing that they trim their sails a little differently, they might just come out roaring, if the new President tries to terminate USMCA.
And of course, you are right, the Umbrella Issue is Long Term Strategy. Will Sonus Faber have no choice but to have loudspeaker cabinets built in the Grand Rapids or North Carolina Furniture-Making districts???
As in all things, Truth will be the Daughter of Time. (Unless we are talking about the JFK assassination.)
