At some point, Kreisler played with the Rhode Island Philharmonic. Probably early to mid 1950s.
One of the librarian ladies at the local public library remembered it well, and knowing that I was studying the violin, told me her story.
Kreisler played his concerto and was rapturously received.
So, he played a solo encore.
The crowd went wild.
And a second, and a third, and the crowd was still going wild.
Kreisler then emerged from the wings wearing his hat and raincoat, with his violin in its case.
He tipped his hat, smiled, and left.
