I was recently told a story by a guy who had a military upbringing and moved a lot, about his mother being an amateur violinist.
So, they moved to a new base and new living quarters, and once they were settled in, the mother resumed practicing. The place was not air conditioned... .
Then, she got very excited because the mailman had dropped off a record of Heifetz playing solo Bach, which she listened to immediately.
The day after that, she ran into one of her neighbors who said "I heard you practicing yesterday. It was actually pretty good!"
