Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Think about it

each and every time you play a CD, the correction circuitry has to fix (the same) read errors on the fly while spinning at a whopping 300 RPM.

A dozen years ago, I ripped my collection error-free which now resides along with lots of 24 bit downloads on a fast SSD based NAS with 6 GB of buffer. It literally takes a matter of seconds after I queue an album or play list that the data stream is coming off memory. With the WiFi fed RPi endpoint in the garage, I also leverage 600 MB of its memory as output buffer so it inhales entire albums.

I'm convinced that memory playback sounds better in my systems. No more spinning shiny disks. ;)
