I owned one of those before I got into file playback and used it to make CDR copies (either from a CD player or a cassette) for a car CD changer. My current vehicle can read files (WAV or FLAC) up to 24/192 and will play them back at 24/96.

I don't how long it hasn't been used but you can check for dust or see if the jacks are dirty.
