Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Re: Is there an end in sight for expensive CD players?

You should hear your laptop through a stand alone USB Dac like the Scott Nixon USBTD. It will take your system to a whole nother level. After hearing my Mac Mini/Scott Nixon I'm done with cd players. I had an older setup PS Lambda transport and Muse 2 Dac but was getting ready to spend up to $2500 for a new cd player but then I heard my current digital system. The Scott Nixon is a non sampling dac with a tube buffer. It goes right from USB to I2S, the native language for the dac. No messing with S/pdif which can mess with the sound. I had the Mac Mini lying around from a different project, the Scott Nixon was $600 and the software is free. Decent sound and convenience, nothing more I could ask for. I'm stuck in a wheelchair with MS so getting up to change cd's or records is inconvenient at best. This method is certainly worth considering.
