Re: Behringer, or used DAC for PC source?

The SRC makes for a wonderful addition to the DEQ. I agree with tvad that the Behringer products lack the ultimate in sound quality, but as a pair they make a nice low budget 24/96 dac that can be easily tweaked. Inside the Behringer products there is lots of room to add additional filtering. With that said, what type of digital output do you have? Pro sound cards differ from gamer sound cards. In my rig I use a Digital Audio Labs CardDeluxe with the ASIO driver. The DAL allows the user to switch between professional and consumer to adjust the output voltage. Right now I run the DAL directly into a Lavry DA10 (latest version) which I use as a preamp prior to a Crown Studio Reference II (THX version). I have tried the SRC before the Lavry and noticed very little difference in sound quality...maybe a little added soundstage width, depth, and height....but nothing to shake a stick at. On the other hand I placed a Apogee Big Ben in front of the DA10 and was stunned by the transformation....but that transformation cost another $1k. The Big Ben before the DEQ is another good combination, especially using the BB word clock. Another DAC you might want to consider if it can be found at A-Gon is the Apogee Mini-Dac with USB option....it's a killer DAC for the price. It's my second choice and I use one often when I go on the road.
