Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

Behringer, or used DAC for PC source?

I've been reading the threads with interest regarding using a Behringer SRC2496 along with a DEQ 2496.

I have a couple of questions, if I can pick your brains.

I really don't want to EQ this room, I like how the speakers sound, but I want to get as good a digital signal out of my PC as I can, and at some point will add a dedicated CD player.

Would you recommend the Behringer combination or would you say I should look at a used DAC, such as:

- Krell Studio
- Aragon D2A or D2A2
- McCormack
- Meridian 561
- Assemblage (various)

which can be had around $300-$700?

If I don't need an EQ, is there a reason for the DEC? I would be feeding an unbalanced preamp (Conrad Johnson PV-10AL) which is conected to a Sumo Polaris and finaly a pair of Mission 7s. I noticed that the DEQ has an auxiliary output, which I imagine is easy to make unbalanced.

I will still need to get a sound card with S/PDIF output of some sort.

Thank you for your ideas and insights!

Erik
