Nice experiment!! I tend to agree with you. I've tried both Classic and 48/96 DIPs. They both made a positive difference in my system. The upsampler was the better of the two. I think it also depends as you say on other factors. The DAC itself being one of them. I use a DAC that doesn't use analog or digital filters. It also doesn't upsample or oversample. The difference with the DIP in the chain was profoundly for the better ..no doubt about it. What I can't understand is how the upsampler processor improved the sound of a NON OS DAC the way it did.
I'm still trying to find an answer. I plan to try several different transports besides my modded Pioneer dvd player and listen for the difference.Good listening
