I have had both players in my system and I am still using the modified 2900. In my system the modified 2900 was much superior to the stock Sony. When I had Dan modify the unit I included both the clock upgrade and the Bybees in addition to the full tube upgrade. Dan at modwright is very nice to work with, he even has a phone which he answers himself. My only complaint is the transport is a bit noisy, this worried me so much that I had Dan order a spare transport. With this spare I should be set for years to come.
