That little converter is HagUSB, and I know it does not "suck" b/c I demo'd it in my house. With HagUSB, it's CRITICAL to:1. Use ASIO4All software. Without it, the sound is sub-par, and there's no other way to bypass K-mixer b/c asio dll does not work.
2. Use proper music player software, such as foobar, optimally configured. Hopefully you guys weren't using iTunes (on PC) or something silly like Windows Media Player.
3. Use a high-quality digital coax cable. Hopefully you used the same (good) digital coax that you used with the traditional trasnport.
4. Since HagUSB dervies power from the USB bus, at least use a good-quality USB cable with hefty, shielded powerline. The computer used should also use a good PS (some PC PS are better than others) and get the same "audiophile power cord" that your transport gets.
Q: What was the traditional "transport" you guys used? Was the same CD compared with lossless files ripped from the same CD with EAC?
P.S. Right now, I can go to my audio PC, click my mouse a few times and make PC audio sound like complete DogPoo. It's STILL about the small details..
