Non oversampling is implementation. As it turns out, it is a very key aspect of implementation. All the dacs and cd players that I've heard with this implementation have a similar naturalness. I would also say that the digital chips used would be an example of "technology" and are the second very key ingredient in performance. When using good chips in a nos circuit you are almost assured of getting a very satisfying sound. All that's required is a decent solution to the output stage and power supplies. Again basic electronics 101 and the ability to follow a manufacturers datasheet. That's why there are so many good sounding examples of nos dacs for not alot of money.

If audionote is your benchmark for implementation then I would say their early dac 1 with its 6k ohm output impedence is a good example of what NOT to do.
