RE: Balanced or single-ended interconnects?

I've compared both on several systems with identical cables. Which I prefer depends on the rest of the system. Since all of my ICs are 1 meter or less, noise rejection isn't a major factor. Differences? Besides the obvious volume change, the balanced may be a smidgen cleaner, but the major difference is that balanced gives a much wider but much shallower soundstage. This is noticeable, but not an earth shattering difference. That said, a good single ended cable is better than a mediocre balanced cable.
