RE: connector voltage 125 V vs 220 V

Welcome to the asylum-
Firstly, from a standards/certification perspective, most marks (UL, CSA, ETL, FM and CE) look at both voltage and amperage when rating wire.
So a load of 15 Amps at 120 VAC = 1800 watts, or 8.2 Amps at 220 VAC
The difference between the insulation for the 120 VAC wire and the 220 VAC wire is negligible if evident.

The larger issue is the plug / receptacle
For the US a three wire connector (Hot, Neutral and Ground) is the NEMA 5-15), however that won't work in Europe because there are different plugs and receptacles in use - CEE 7/7, CEE 7/16 and CEE 7/17, and for the UK and Ireland, Type G (BS1363).

So, unless you can change the plug/receptacle for what ever you buy, be careful ...
