The Silver Odin I bought was quitte heavy indeed. 17mm thick and the connectors were also quitte heavy. For the money an absolute steal. The Silver Odin was connected with 3 wires on hot (on one side), 3 on neutral (on 1 side) and the middle 1 on earth. No foil was used as a shield/drain on both ends (floating). I swapped the connectors (C-004 on IEC and Viborg 511R on Schuko) and changed the wire configuration to 3 pairs of Hot/Neutral and 1 earth. The magnetic field around the cable is more balanced this way. Lower stray fields for the other cables around the back of my system. I finished them with 2 layers of techflex (1st carbon, 2nd Flexo noise reduction) I can not compare to the gold version because I haven't used one. But compared to the Ramm Amadeus 5 MKII, The Odin sounded fatter and more open (especially on NUC and DAC/Pre-Amp).
I think the air dielectricum and the thicker individual solid core strands are the reason the Odin sounds better then the Ramm. Which was no slouch either. Warm and Open is a combo you don't find often. The funny thing is that my systems still sounds warm. I have no harshness in my system with the Odin and my 'hard plated' plugs. The harshness went away when I went optical on my DAC and used FMC's on ethernet. I can play as loud as I want all day and zero fatigue.
I hope you find the combo that works for you.
