Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

I guess I won't know if my Chinese Valhalla speaker cables are better

or not.

Over the last few days I've replaced both the tube sockets on the driver board and the binding posts in my amp, along with the cables.

The tube sockets had been giving me trouble for years, with one side or the other having a higher volume, loud pops, low level fluttering, and just noise in general. I replaced all 4 driver sockets. The original Dynaco screw terminals were still in it and I used a drop in replacement that was still a PITA to install.

The amp is now silent with a much blacker background. Add to that the Valhalla cables and I couldn't tell if the cables sound different or not. If I want to put the old cables back in I suppose I could just to give more of an A/B comparison.

For the moment though I'm happy with it the way it is. And let this be a lesson to all tube gear owners. It usually isn't the tube that gives you problems, it is the socket. Once they loosen they no longer make good contact. My new ones are so tight I had to apply pressure to get the tube in.
