I had heard the same thing, but none of my digital cables are 1.5 meters.
Logic would seem to dictate that if the 1.5 meter 'rule' were true, ALL of the manufacturers (especially the upper end ones) would make their cables that length. Why produce a different length cable that would sound sub-optimal in a system? That could damage the reputation of the whole cable line.
I went to HiFiShark and did a search on digital cables, most expensive first. Well, there are a lot of very expensive digital cables from fabled makers (which of course I cannot afford) which are NOT 1.5 meters.
Perhaps that is a data point, but it does not address how the cables sound. I do not think there is a direct correlation, in all cases, between stereo equipment cost and sonic bliss...
