DIY Balanced cables Help needed !!

Althought I have made a couple of interconnects with Rca, this will be my first DIY balanced. I am using DH Labs Pro Studio with 2 conductors and a shield.
My question is with the shield. On RCAs many have said to leave the shield disconnected at one end. What do I do with the Balanced design,2 conductors and the shield is the ground. Not sure if I have to connect the shield (ground) at both ends or can I leave one end floating.
