I am amazed at the improvement in sound I've gotten by replacing my aussie style wall socket with the Furutech fp-15cu receptacle.
The aussie wall plate (Clipsal 2000 series) is a switched device and I wondered if the switch mechanism may have something to do with it's relatively poor sonics.
After looking inside I'm not that surprised the Furutech is a better sounding option - though I am surprised by the amount of improvement made by the Furutech.
The Clipsal 2000 has a switch on the active pole that is made up of a thin, spring loaded, nickel(?) plated bar that rocks on a 'knife' edge towards a small contact button (looks to be nickel plated also).
Apart from the small contact area of the switch, the retention strength of the actual plug clips is very weak compared to the Furutech receptacle.
As expected on this cheap mass produced item - materials are nothing special. All about making the most cost effective device that will do the basic job.
It appears my equipment was drinking through a straw.
Sound via the Furutech receptacle is emphatically more 3 dimensional and vivid. While imaging is more precise, tonal colors are far richer and sweeter - strings sound amazing.
