Impressive stuff. Triode Dick has a website here in Holland with several DIY tube amp projects. There is quite an active DIY scene here in Holland. Alas i'm too hamfisted to hold a soldering iron.

How do you change a record without stepping on something important?
.
You do post some funny responses,
Keep up the good work.
That's the funniest damn thing I've ever found posted on this board.
Thanks Mr. O'Malley !
We could ask JJ I guess...;-)

is that a thorens?just a question: is the commonly-held belief that these idlers need to be attached to a massive plinth to dampen vibration? curious...
It's a diy turntable using a Thorens TD150 platter, bearing and motor based upon a concept I drew a few years ago. I was pleasantly surprised that someone actually looked at the images and then decided to build it.However now he's thinking about a diy Teres. Perfect, I'd say.
Idlers and massive plinths. Yes, it's about the mass of the plinth acting as an acoustic energy sink. In other words the vibes travel out and away from the resonating chassis into the plinth. This helps to keep those various mechanical vibes away from the stylus/groove pick-up. Ergo, lower noise floor, better details heard. Now the idler is competitive with belt drives in terms of s/n ratio and surpasses them in terms of rhythmic drive and dynamics.

Look like that then....
Apart from it being totally different, that might do it.
A very tidy looking set up... I know that how it looks should not matter, it should be about the sound but it does help if it don't look like an oil refinery at the other end of the room.If its all DIY... then the man has a talent and alot of time to spare. More power to your elbow.
