Anything new on the multi-channel / Active scene?

Anyone doing multi-way active using PC audio these days?

I'm still using a now ancient Auzentech X-Meridian 7.1 2G 8 channel soundcard with LME49720 op-amp. Funny thing, even by today's standards this thing sounds really quite good. I moved away from the antiquated Thuneau Allocator because as alluring as the phase-correction software was, the delay caused by the requisite buffer is not compatible with video. (Too bad that delay can't be switched off when the "Abitrator" is inactive...)

Anyways, if you have a multi-way PC rig, do chime in and let us know what hardware and software you're using to make it work.

I'm using Equalizer APO of all things. It does not use ASIO or even exclusive mode but I believe I've figured out a way to not invoke resampling (but, the new resampling is still far superior than the old K-Mixer from the XP era...) I keep mine set to 24/192 in case it's ever invoked.

Anyhoo... that's enough out of me.

Cheers,
Presto

I use a number of ways to play 5.0 or 5.1 - mostly through my Mac Mini (USB connected to an exaSound e38 7.1 channel DAC), although my blu-ray player also plays MCh discs (DVD-A's, SACD's), and my blu-ray player also plays blu-rays with Dolby Atmos soundtracks (both movies and audio only).

However, the most recent (and, for me, most exciting) development in my MCh listening occurred last August when I got an Apple TV 4K device (for $150) and connected it to my JBL pre/pro. This allows me to stream discreet Dolby Atmos tracks from Apple Music to my 5.1.4 system. Yes, it's lossy 24/48, but Apple's Dolby Atmos selection is WAY more extensive than what's available on blu-ray, and I don't mind the lossy compression in view of the more holistic sound field. There are more new immersive titles released on Apple Music each week than I can get to - I doubt that I will ever catch up with everything I want to hear! ;-)

I run a WinPC with a Merging Hapi II network connected by AES67 mediated by Merging's MAD ASIO driver. Have EQ options via VST plugins in JRiver and more I/O than I can use (16channels analog out, 8 channels AES/EBU digital in and out and more).

Kal - are you using this for multi-channel or multi-way?

Cheers,

there are more than enough unused channels for adding active multi-way speakers.

Hey Presto. Glad to see you still kicking!!

You are a better audiophile than I am. Sadly I have all the gear, pc, lynx 2b soundcard, 2 Parasound A21 amps and magnepans with removed crossovers. Pretty sure I bought the Thuneau software too. But man I never got it setup. Had some stuff happen and speakers were not going to happen, so am headphone based today with the gear just sitting in storage.

So glad you got it all working and solving the APO resampling is a great job. Still leery about eq and while headphones can benefit, I went a different way to get the sound I want.

Thanks for showing up!!
