Tomorrow is RSD and nary a word here about it.
A friend owns a record shop and he mentioned it, otherwise I'd
never have known.
Not blaming the vinyl forum for that either, but there used to be
chatter for what was considered a special day that seems to have
been... assimilated.

Follow Ups:
Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.
I looked at the list and didn't see anything I had to have. Maybe we are too busy buying UHQRs?

Yes, it seems like it isn't as special as it once was. I hope that it's still beneficial for independent record stores (wasn't that it's initial purpose?). Perhaps it isn't as important or special as it was in the past now that vinyl records have become mainstream and special releases are more common.Has it become a cash grab opportunity for record companies?
I wonder what your store owner friend thinks about RSD.

Been to Groningen, a city in the northern Netherlands Saturday. Went to a record shop and indeed, live music, RSD. Crates full of new vinyl on sale, still 15 to 20 euro per. Got two reissues, Paul Butterfield Blues band with Mike Bloomfield, and Joy Division. Went home.
These new records were in shrink wrap plastic so i couldn't check the records. One of them wasn't completely flat but OK. The other one had a clearly visible BUMP with my cart and stylus jumping up and down. Mmmm.

Back in the pre-CD days, imported Dutch LP pressings were pricey and highly sought after in the US. Classical on Philips and jazz, etc on PolyGram/Polydor. They were heavier weight vinyl and had less surface noise than the domestic versions. But that was 40+ years ago. Sorry you got punked.
. . . in theory, practice and theory are the same; in practice, they are different . . .
I had the same problem with a Latin Playboys RSD LP. Almost shaped like a potato chip and it barely played.
I took the plunge on a Vinyl Flat device and it's now flat as a pancake and plays and sounds wonderful.
Don't know if the VF devices are available to you there, but it's an awfully handy thing to have. It doesn't get much use, but when you need a VF there's not very many substitutes - and they're not crazy expensive.
I would save the price of an occasionally used device and spend less money to use the two window pane method , instructions are all over the internet.
I first heard of this using sunlight as the heat source, but I think getting an oven to 150 f, turn the heat off, and then placing in the vinyl glass sandwich in until the oven cools is the safest. no chance of run away heat.
Although warps are unfortunate, I don't stress about them too much, knowing vinyl will always revert to the original hot pressed molecular grid, given the right circumstances.
I've had a severely warped record return to flat by just being stored in compression , my storage space is very tight, for an unknown amount of time. I had avoided playing it for at least two years, because of a warp my cartridge thought was a ski jump.
There's no way to control heat applied with that windowpane method. I would never trust a valuable LP to a hit and miss.
A POS pressing it wouldn't matter.
compression for so many years that I had forgotten until cleaning up one day. Compression was done with cement blocks.
Over on the Record Collector site it's a big deal. With lots of posts with pics of RSD record purchases. It's been a topic of discussion for the last couple of weeks.

The first three people slept in their SUVs next to the front door at 6:45pm the night before. No old folks in these pics.

'Everybody digs Bill Evans' in Mono.
It is said to be cut from the original master tape. Will see how good the condition of the tape as I was told Riverside did not preserve the master tape as good as Blue Note did.
I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know about this. As in - never heard of it. Shame on me. Looks like the first RSD was on my birthday in 2008. Must be an omen. Going to the local RS later today. Thanks for posting!
I'm glad for the interest, for awhile there I figured vinyl records were like model trains , a big deal , full of collectors, until the collectors and people of that generation largely died off.
for the Taylor Swift release.
Tay-tay releases a new album, Swifties pour over the lyrics looking for hidden meanings.
Local news had a pic of the line outside the Attic in Millvale, PA (my favorite local store). Considerably longer than it was the first time I went.

Agreed, rather a let down this time
I just this morning got an email from Audioengine that was reminding readers that tomorrow was RSD. I thought "damn, I forgot it was on 4/20". So, I went to RSD site to pour over the releases for this one tomorrow.
What a letdown. Not a single thing worth getting mentally erect over.
Maybe next time.
...you know they're really reaching.
Still...I really wanted a Jonathan Richman album that was released last April but apparently it was pressed off-center. So I passed on that one.
Tomorrow, there's a live set from the 2018 50th anniversary of Sweetheart of the Rodeo tour. Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives. The best Byrds stuff on there, not just Sweetheart . Stuart is a huge Byrds fan.

I have a regular release of that bing Crosby Christmas album, at it is very worthwhile to own, besides perhaps defining the genre' it has melealokaha is the Hawaiian way to say merry Christmas, a stellar track. (excuse the spelling)
the sweet hearts of the rodeo disk might have caused me to make the scene had I known about it early enough to make plans. I had dismissed RSD as just a collection of odd ball collector's stuff, but could have enjoyed a few of the albums .
One Discogs seller has it, wants $90 for it. Two were on eBay last I looked, both sellers wanted about $200.
Way too much in both cases.
I sample some of the tracks online this morning. Roger McGuinn sounds pretty bad. His voice isn't ruined, but it really quavers.

IMO, the record companies are sort of scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Oh, I still pour over the list when its published but baby the thrill is gone.
There's one LP on the list that, for me, is a must. Problem is, there's no guarantee I'll find it after fighting traffic to and from the store and standing in line for half an hour waiting to get in. My participating store can request copies of RSD LPs but may or may not get them.
On the other hand, I'll have no problem finding the record next week on Discogs or eBay and at any rate it's a first release, not an RSD exclusive. So the regular black vinyl version will be out sooner or later.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
According to Mike from The In-Groove, his customers start queuing before midight and it gets really busy by 4am! The only thing I ever lined up for at midnight was my green card.
By that time, the line is already much shorter. Usually, the records I'm after, nobody else is much interested in.
A green card is worth lining up for at midnight; LPs aren't.
