The 4100 was the first piece of s/s Mac gear I ever liked. (I had lots of time with the underwhelming C26, C28, and 50/100 watt amps.) The tuner section was good, of course - they never made a bad RF section. But the 4100 seemed to have it all, particularly for that era. I wonder what I'd think of it today; I haven't heard one in decades.
And a special nod to the Mac 1700, if just for it's wonderful FM section.
Props also to the Kenwood 2120, which, though at the bottom of their range, punched 'way above its weight. It was one of Henry Akia's best designs.
Back in the 60's I liked the AR receiver, which I heard many times at their listening room in Grand Central Terminal. I have NO idea whether I'd like it today.
The Heathkit 1500 was also the cat's meow back then.
