RE: Curiosity and the Wayback Machine

It was a real treat when my dad would take me to the Lafayette Radio Store on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset. It was so much fun seeing the gear in real life vs. what was shown in the catalog (the real stuff always looked a lot smaller than what I expected.) Then you would fill out an order card and give it to a clerk who would go out back and assemble your order (so much more satisfying than ordering shit from Amazon). The ultimate in instant gratification.

As an added bonus he would often take a side trip to Harvey Radio which was nearby- a bit more upscale than Lafayette- they had a nice McIntosh selection there.
