Sansui 331 issues.

Greetings
I recently acquired a Sansui 331 receiver (circa 1974ish), from the dump. After thorough decontamination and pot contact cleaning, switch exercising etc. I am down to this current set of symptoms:

The auxiliary inputs (aux/tape) will not work in stereo mode, only in mono. In stereo mode the Left channel all but disappears. However, the phono preamp works fine in stereo and mono and sounds good. The FM stereo circuit also works fine in stereo or mono mode. Great tuner, BTW.
Are these discrete preamp circuits? Could I have a bad transistor or capacitor in the control amplifier that does not affect phono or fm? Any thoughtful input is much appreciated!
