Yamaha, Denon, and Soundcraftsmen (made in the USA!) are some excellent sounding amps. The Soundcraftsmen PCR800 is a delicious MOSFET amp, I have two that I run bridged for 900 watts into 4 ohms, 600 watts into 8 ohms. The Soundcraftsmen, especially, run under the radar and are just incredible bargains. I have also had four or five of their 250 wpc amps, and still have the PA5001 basic black box amp.
Yamaha preamps are some great gear.
Now, mind, these are 80s gear, and one of my Yamaha preamps is mid-90s.
For receivers, the Concept line is excellent. The big 165 wpc Concept 16.5 receiver allowed me to sell off my other 6 TOTL major brand receivers.
