and the Pilot amp sound marvelous. The speakers were evidently too close to the side walls and they sounded lousy and bright. Moving them away from the walls brought everything into focus.
Thanks to everyone who made alternate tube suggestions - I think I'm OK at this point. Back to the music!!!
