Serious listening session to Marantz 2330B.

Last night I finally got to get in some serious listening to my "new to me" 2330B. Rig" the 2330B, tweaked Advents and Dual CS 5000 with an AT440MLa cartridge.

No question the Marantz has power to spare and this is impacting the clarity of sound in a positive way. I was previously using a Technics SA 200 which at the time I thought was very musical. The Marantz if definitely different and this is taking me getting use to. The Marantz sound is more colored to me. Kind of like adding cream and sugar to coffee. Its still coffee but with a different flavor. The more I listen the more I appreciate the Marantz. I definitely agree with what others have said in the past that listening to a Marantz is less fatiguing. My ears don't ever seem to get strained. I imagine the more I listent to better it will get. Marantz needs a few hours on it to work out the cob webs, Advents might still be breaking in as they have recently been recapped and AT cart has fewer than 50 hours on it.

There are a couple issues. 1. On the volume pot at the 4 o'clock position there is s definite scrathiness. Just a "blip" I did deox all the pots and then give them the pro-gold treatment. What else can I do? Reclean the pot?? This unit is a real bear as far as getting easy access to things.

2. On Phono 1 and Phono 2 there is white noise. I'm picking this up at about 12 o'clock on the volume and beyond. Phono 1 is higher in pitch and a bit louder. Both 1 and 2 seem to be coming mostly from the tweeter, but there is some output from the woofer. This occurs with TT turned on or off and with TT rca cables disconnected. Not getting this "white noise" off any other source from the selector. I am using rca cables as jumpers from main in to pre out on the back panel. My guesses: Caps in phono section wearing out with age. Jumpers not of the best quality need to upgrade. RCA cables on tt would benefit from an upgrade.

Would appreciate thoughts and advise. Thanks.

Regards,
HB
