Hello,I have refurbed an SP-3A-1 power supply. I bought the pre used and I believe there are 5-6 capacitor cans in this unit. The one I purchased was missing one can and some of the others showed high ESR.
The values of these cans are no longer commercially available, so ARC re-vamped the PS to accomodate newer style radial caps and included a muting circuit in its update (for a $1000!) of this unit.
I ended up restuffing each can with computer grade cornell-dublier 105 degree C caps. Replaced the leaking pass transistor and all the zeners and resistors on the board. It is indistinguishable from stock.
Works like a charm and my unit is easily a 9/10 or better cosmetically...so it turned out quite well.
If you're good with tools and can read a schematic it can be done...a lot of work but worth it..
