I also own a pair of vintage JBL Jubal L-65 speakers. Mine turned up "as is" in a local Berkeley thrift shop about three or four years ago for $22 the pair. They came with original grille cloth, top smoked glass, etc, but the foam surrounds in the woofers both were in need of replacement.
I brought the woofers to A Brown Soun in San Rafael, CA and for about $130, they did a perfect job, as that is their business. I did not want to mess around with these ones, because I refoamed a pair of the same loudspeakers many years ago and they were not sounding that great to me, so I sold them.
The L-65 is a legendary speaker. It not only might be the very best sounding of all JBL consumer speakers, but if you know anything about them, you will already know that the tweeters in these are a rather interesting design. A pair of such tweeters alone can sell for $400-450 a pair in perfect condition, so you may see just the tweeters being sold separately for that very reason.
I own KEF Calindas, as well. When I have played jazz and classical, not to mention rock on these L-65's, using my all-tube Marantz sysem, they are incredible sounding, SIMPLY INCREDIBLE, and sort of moderately efficient.
In all, you would be hard-pressed to find a better sounding vintage loudspeaker. I now need to spray out the level controls in my own set, since they are dirty and intermittent, but once I do so, they are KEEPERS! I wanted to mention this in passing, since if you purchase these ones, you should inquire about the level controls, just to be certain that they might not be "scratchy".
Go for them, but be careful about how they are packed for shipment!
