Hello, All:I wanted to share something with you!
Yesterday was really an amazingly lucky day in my part of Northern California.
On my way home from a medical appointment, I decided to stop and peek inside a local thrift store and in the process of parking the car, I pulled up opposite a pile of discarded furniture and whatnot.
However, right on top of a cabinet was something that I immediately recognized! Yes, believe it or not, right on the top was a clean Panasonic SV-3800 Pro DAT recorder. Beneath it, was an AKAI S-1000 digital sampler and recorder.
The DAT recorder works very nicely and I have not yet tested the AKAI, which was not in very clean shape.
I wanted to emphasize that I do location recording work here in the SF/Bay Area and even though most of us no longer record to DAT, those of us who have used the medium over the past seveal years do have extensive libraries of masters recorded to this format. So, having more than one working Pro DAT machine around is not such a bad idea. Finding a beautiful unit like the SV-3800 is even better, if it is for FREE.
Never mind what was in the thrift store! NOTHING, really, but on that street nearby, WOW!
And, why would I be picky? Now to find how much it will be to have the machine properly serviced as a routine precaution for transport problems. Sure sounded much sweeter than my trusty Tascam DA-30-II.
Apparently an entire house was being renovated and the workmen were simply clearing it of whatever had been left behind by the former tenants or owners.
What did the workmen tell me?
"Too bad that you were not here this morning! We had all sorts of things out there, including more than a few decent television sets. Someone drove up and took them all!"
BOOOO Hooooooo.
:-)
Yes, it was quite a lucky day for me, right on the heels of finding that very nice Sansui Integrated Amp, the AU-D9 a few weeks ago.
I live in audio recycle paradise, allright!
