My first exposure to Hi-Fi was my father's Bogen integrated amplifier and tuner setup. David Bogen started his company in NY and eventually moved it to NJ. Bogen was known for providing good value in their products.Bogen later found it's long term niche selling PA systems and amplifiers, and still does. Many churches still have working Bogen tube PA systems. I guess they have lasted this long because they are only driven on Sunday. One of the more common later series tube Bogen PA amplifiers uses a pair of 7868 output tubes, these show up fairly often for sale online. Rumour has it that if you contact the Bogen Amplifier Co. today and ask nicely, they may be willing to provide copies of repair manuals and schematics for their early products.
My father traded in his circa 1959 Bogen gear in 1971 and purchased a Sansui 5000A receiver, Dual 1219 TT, and KLH No. 6 speakers. I do have a collection of reel to reel tapes, including FM mono radio broadcasts and even a transfer of Sgt. Pepper made with the Bogen gear. These actually quite listenable, even after so many years. The highs are rolled off but the mids are very sweet.
I believe someone said that back in the hey day of Hi-Fi, meaning tube mono or early stereo, if the consumer was wealthy and wanted the best they purchased Mcintosh gear if they had the space for separate components. If they were well to do but just wanted great sound without multiple components they bought Fisher (popular with those music lovers who lived in NY, or Scott equipment if they lived in New England.) If they were electrical engineers they bought Marantz. If they were on a tight budget there were the Dynakits and other kit products available for the do-it-yourselfer. If the consumer wanted good sounding audio gear at a reasonable price, but did not want to build a kit, Bogen was a popular line of amplifiers and tuners and eventually offered at least one model of receiver.
