Re: New Mullard EL34

Truhfully its well known I have never been a big el34 fan until I heard the JJ KT77..Take a look at the photo I have posted..I put two of each kind that I have tested the JJ KT77 against and you will see nos nib amperex metal bases made in holland, mullard XF1s and XF2s and the pair of amperex dual sq getter made in holland and the true Telefunkens made in w.germany and a pair of SED and the pair of EH 6ca7 fat bottles.
In every case from detail to realism and delicate nuances the KT77 JJ was the clear winner..Each tube tho did somthing very well but the one that came the closest to the JJ Kt77 was the telefunken.
The amps I used for tests were my upgraded eico hf50s on a pair of martin logan monoliths. They really addressed everything I dislike about the el34 from hard brittle sonics to the non linear characteristics to make it sound very much like a 6L6gc.
What makes these tubes so special is they dont irritate you no matter how long you listen to them and they were superb right out of the box..For it to walk away from all tubes I had shown you thats some feat. The metal base amperex were the biggest disappointment.Maybe they need break in time who knows .
If you order a quad of these you best tell the dealer to inspect the tubes for crooked bottles and also make sure your pins are tight in your amp becuase they do use the smaller diameter pins.
