I have around 40 26 tubes and have found that there are 4 styles.
I will outline them in order of age
RCA 226 globe with rounded plates- very dynamic very microphonic fuller tone
RCA 226 globe with polished squared plate- very dynamic less microphonic more neutral
26 ST with polished square plates- nice blend of dynamics and lower microphonics
26 ST with dull satin squared plates- a bit blander than any of the above better than a 227 though.these seemed to hold true for various brands in the ST style.The best bet is the ST polished plates ubless you can handle the microphonics of the globes.
make a damm good filiament supply and use battery bias, sonic bliss awaits you.
