You can simulate your power supply with PSU Designer II which you can download for free from duncanamps.com. I have used it many times and it tells you if the power supply capacitance creates an excessively high current for the rectifier you are using. You can choose from a variety of tube and solid state rectifiers and several filter configuration such as capacitor or inductor input, pi filters, paralleled rectifiers, etc.
