I never like the sound of 12AT7 as I think it is a bit hard sounding.
Now I am trying with an AAA NIMH 800 ma at the cathode, with a 120 ohm resistor in between for the feedback loop. Initially this circuit used a 12AX7 with 820 ohm to the ground.
So after trying the AX, AT and Aum I like the AT best. AX now sounded a bit hard, Au seemed to breaks up a lot. for the 12AT7, I am using Brimar CV 4024 ( I think, chulk ink fading), the current is about 1.5 ma, R plate is 75K, B+ is about 245V. The sound is smooth, and as other inmates reported, the bass is solid and firm! 12AT7 never sound so good here!
