Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

The SoniCap Platinum, wound with teflon-alloy film, is the best-sounding...

...cap I've even heard, but I've never compared than with V-Cap TFTFs. The SCPs are 'only' $62 each.

The next-best-sounding cap IME is the Cardas Golden Ratio. I THINK they're not quite as smooth sounding as the SCPs, but differences this small are very difficult for me to hear. Compared with other 'propylene-film caps, the CGRs are VERY smooth (= NOT edgy). The CGRs are only $30 each.

Six, huh? My ASL 'Canes take 10 each. I used SCPs is the 1st position (2) and CGRs in the 2nd (8).

Neither is warm sounding; tonally I find them to be quite neutral, which is how I want my electronics to sound. Warmth I get from my speakers.
