I'm thinking of converting the driver in a 2A3 PP amp from a 6SN7 long-tailed pair to a 5687 IT stage. I have a few questions which I hope some of you might be able to answer:At present the input tube is a CCS loaded 56 (~90Vp)DC-coupled to the 6SN7. I would like to keep the direct-coupling. Will there be problems running the 5687 like this? I'm thinking of operating them at roughly 175Vp, -8Vg and ~10 mA, rp ~3K. Is this a lousy operating point for the 5687? I've got a fair amount of B+ to work with (~425-430V) so it's the max primary I (15 mA)of the IT (5K primary, 60H primary L, 1:0.5+0.5) that's the limiting factor. I can parallel the primary windings to double the max current, but that turns it into a 1:0.25+0.25, no?
