I tried a lot of 6CG7s as a twin tail phase splitter into triode 6V6s. I was not please with the sonics of GE, Sylvania, RCA and a few others with the exception of a real Raytheon 6CG7 with tall black plates & center shield. Most Raytheon 6CG7 are grey plate made in Japan.I also tried 6922s of many brands, some 12BH7s and a Telefunken ECC85 that fell well short of the real Raytheon 6CG7 performance.
Anyways, if not a real US Raytheon 6CG7 black plate, I would use a Sylvania 6SN7GT, GTA or W with the T shape plates. If too expensive, try a pair of 1940s Sylvania 6J5GT.
