Yep, I think the you and the previous posters are correct. I can't remember where, perhaps in a RCA tube manaul when the ST bottle first came out. But the gist of it is that the new (then) ST shape, along with the top mica, made a more reliable tube.Funny thing is that the globes do seem to sound better in general. Also many ST shaped tube are microphonic regardless!
That reminds me: I have a few Cunningham globe 327 tubes here that I need to fire up!
