You want to make sure that the transformer's amp rating is enough to cover your current demands. If you push a transformer at its limit it can get hot and hum. Regulation in and of itself is not the primary parameter in selecting a filiment transformer. If I need 2 amps of current I will often choose a transformer that can provide 3 amps.
