Here is the thing..Im very fond of the el84 tube also and I can assure an el34 is not going to solve your problem. If your getting muddiness in the amp,its likely a feedback issue in relationship to the tranformers that you are using..I cant belive all the tubes you had mentioned to be muddy being they are time honored triodes that have been around in audio circles for years.The el34 is no doubt going to sound brittle and dry in SE fashion by comparsion to what your used to with the el84.
Talk to Elektron Robert and he can probably get you squared away on your SE design..Dont rule out the 300b yet because I think its a feedback issue or maybe needs some feedback in relationship to the output tranny.You may need to use an innerstage tranny for impeadance matching in the driver part of the circuit.
