Brian/Harry,
Ihave been using diff cascodes for 25 years now, and still have yet to find a more linear circuit, both at preamp and poweramp driver levels. I have taken literally hundreds of measurements and I'm constantly amazed at just how low the distortion of these stages are - and vastly better than any output stage config I can come up with.I don't have the sources/skills to post these spectrums here - but can email some if you would be interested.
And measurements aside - I find a single stage diff cascode driver sounds so much cleaner, more transparent and having so much more DDR (Downward Dynamic Range) than any two stage topology I've tried - that I now don't bother doing it any other way!
The only drawback is that even without NFB the overall gain can be lowish - but most systema have far to much gain anyway - IMO!
