Since the original discussion is pretty far down, here is the schematic for the 12at7 phono pre amp:
The currents are 2.85 and 4ma and I have not selected tubes for noise but more for tone and dynamics. Wound up with GE 3 micas.
The output impedance is 10k for the first stage and 14k for the second, thus the advantage over the 12ax7 pre.
